Barcodes (and QR Codes) in Invent 2.5.0

The latest version of Infigo Invent for InDesign has arrived (with another soon to follow!)

In this version, along with several smaller fixes and improvements, we see the introduction of barcode specification from within Invent. Populate barcodes with static text, or link them to variables you've created within your Invent template, to allow end-users to customise barcode content.

Take a look at the tutorial below to learn how to use this new feature.

Invent 2.5.0 also saw minor fixes in the following areas:

  • Booklets with split covers
  • Logic section being cut off
  • Price range change to 1 after export

Content Template Enhancements and Fixes

We have introduced a new set of updates for our Content Templates, providing a range of improvements and small fixes identified by ourselves and our users over the previous months.

Automatic Categories in the Header

The headline update for our Content Templates is the ability to automatically populate a range of categories into your header.

When using the Header Content Template, simply select "Header Item - Automatic Categories" from the Add Content list.

Remember, you may need to clear your Infigo cache () to see these updates on the front end!

Other Updates

Let's take a look at some of the other updates we've implemented:

  • We've enhanced the accessibility of our templates by integrating ARIA labels, roles, and proper navigation capabilities. These updates include adding roles to navigation components and dropdowns, naming links, ensuring keyboard navigability for dropdowns, and more, further aligning our software with accessibility best practices.

  • We've added a new "Unpublish" option at the highest level of each section template (find it using the configure icon ) . This feature ensures that templates can be quickly deactivated from use within modules, enhancing control and flexibility across your content management workflow.

  • We have enhanced the Content Templates system by introducing a new placeholder, %Account.Links%, to dynamically generate and display custom links in the 'My Account' section.

The Best of the Rest

Identifying resources uploaded via Invent .mex files

We've refined our product management system to address issues with duplicated naming during MEX imports. In terms of changes you will see, all MEX-related resources such as clipart, canvas and stock will be clearly identified on a product.

When viewing resources assigned to a product, administrators will now see a clear definition between MEX and non-MEX resources.

This update prevents duplicate variable sets by allowing products with identical names to coexist without error, improving system organisation and maintaining clean visibility in the admin interface.

Introduction of a New Email Template for Order Tracking Updates

We've introduced a new email template specifically for updating customers with order tracking information, separate from the order shipment confirmation. This new template, which is disabled by default, will only be triggered when a tracking number is added, preventing duplicate notifications to customers about their order's shipping status. This refinement ensures that customers receive timely and accurate updates about their orders without confusion.

New Character Limit Validation for Address Fields

To ensure compliance with some shipping provider's character restrictions, we've introduced a new, optional validation rule in Infigo that can limit the number of characters in address fields. This setting, adjustable in Customer Settings>Billing and Delivery Addresses Configuration>Address lines characters limit, applies to various areas including registration, account management, checkout, and more, enhancing the reliability of shipping label generation.

Enable Customer-Declared Tax Exemption During Registration

We've added a new feature that allows customers to declare their tax exemption status directly during registration. This setting, accessible under Customer Settings > Registration Form, introduces a toggle in the registration process. Once enabled, it provides a checkbox for customers to indicate their tax exemption, which is then reflected in the administrative backend and visible as read-only in their account settings.

Enhanced Reporting for Orders Paid with Reward Points and Budgets

We've updated the Sales - Order Summary report to accurately reflect payment methods when orders are paid using reward points or budget allocations. New columns, 'RewardPointsUsed' and 'BudgetUsed', have been added to the report to show monetary values corresponding to the points or budget utilized. Additionally, the report will now display specific payment types for orders fully paid with either budget or reward points, ensuring clearer financial tracking and reporting.
